The main focus of most wedding receptions is the wedding cake. It will be featured prominently in your wedding pictures and it will be a focal point for all your guests when they arrive at the reception hall. Your cake can pull together your colors and wedding theme in one beautiful, delicious package.

Tips for choosing your wedding cake

When choosing your cake there are some tips you should take into consideration.

First you have to remember the weeding date. For example if you plan on having your wedding in the summer at a hot location, you can choose only some of the possible flavors for your wedding cake. Things like mousse, or even ice cream cake might be out of the question, but you can always go with a cheesecake wedding cake. Find out what types of cakes are in “season”.

Depending on the number of guests that you are expecting at your wedding you have to decide if you are going to have a small or a big wedding cake. If you are planning to save some cake for all the guests who could not accept your invitation and will be unable to attend, and you are also planning to send your wedding cake to out-of-town invitees, then you should keep this in mind while determining the exact number of people, then you should definitely go with a big wedding cake. But if you are having a small wedding with only family and close friends, a small wedding cake will be a perfect choice.

Choosing the cake’s shape is another important step. Square and round cakes are very popular because they are easy to cut into uniform slices, but if your wedding has a distinct theme like hearts, butterflies or horseshoes, you may want the cake shape to follow suit. It is very popular and modern to have a heart shaped wedding cake nowadays.

There are a lot of flavors for wedding cakes so deciding the right one for you could be a real challenge. While it is important that a wedding cake appeal to the visual senses, it is even more important that it tastes good. Choose from the regular  cake flavors such as vanilla or chocolate, fruitcake or sponge cake, cheesecakes, and even wedding cakes with a mousse filling. If you are tempted by different flavors and can’t make up your mind, you can have a wedding cake with different tiers in different flavors!

Decorating a cake is only limited by your imagination. Some couples design the cake around the decor or theme of the wedding. While others give the cake a unique look, with crazy and outrageous decorations, which define who they are.
